On Saturday morning, three children from the same family died in a collision in Ploudaniel (29). Another is seriously injured. Their father and the driver of the other vehicle are more lightly. This axis is particularly accidentogenic.
Tragedy sometimes likes to hit the same place, or almost. RD 770, between Ploudaniel and RN 12, north of Landerneau, was again the setting for a terrible drama this Saturday. Around 11 am, in a slight curve, at a place called Penfrat, on a wet road, a resident of La Roche-Maurice (29), aged 46, lost control of his Ford Focus for a reason that the gendarmerie investigation will have to determine. Opposite came a Nissan Qashqai driven by a resident of Kernouës (29), near Lesneven (29). The 51-year-old man was reportedly slightly injured. But in the other vehicle, cut in half, the balance is infinitely heavier. The driver was injured, one of his children, aged eleven and seriously injured, had to be transported by helicopter to the hospital of the White Cavalry in Brest. The other children of this man, aged five, six and twelve, lost their lives. Firefighters, gendarmes, Smur went on the spot with many means. Traffic was re-established shortly before 2 pm
Several fatal accidents on this dangerous axis
Mid-October, a few hundred meters further north, a Lesneven man had also been killed in a collision. On Saturday, December 2, in the evening, a three-year-old girl died in her turn, closer to the town. Still in Penfrat, an accident, certainly less serious, had already taken place a few years ago. Beyond their sadness, the elected officials and the users of this axis put in question, yesterday, its dangerousness. He has had other episodes for many years. The mayor of Ploudaniel, Joel Marchadour, recalls that a public utility survey for works was held in the spring of 2016. That “work is planned on five kilometers, for about 8 M €. The departmental council, for ten months, buys land to create two roundabouts, left-turners, parallel access roads to fields and houses and soften the curves. The elected official hopes to see this phase come to an end this summer and that the work will finally begin: 13,000 vehicles spend there on average per day. However, it is impossible to say whether the crash of this Saturday, in particular, would have been avoided with a better road.
Gendarmes, elected officials and a doctor on duty had the difficult task of informing the mother at her house in Landerneau at noon time. They assisted her while family members arrived. The city of Landerneau has also contacted the National Education. The Constituency Inspector and school psychologists will be present on the first day of school for three of these four children.
